Light in the Darkness
John 8:12
“Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.’” (NKJV)
Walking through darkness is disorienting. Every step feels uncertain, shadows stretch longer than expected, and it’s easy to wonder if you’ll ever see clearly again. But even the smallest source of light can change everything. A single candle in a pitch-black room reveals the path forward, casts away fear, and shows the contours of reality you couldn’t see before.
John 8:12 reminds us that Jesus is that light. The darkness of confusion, fear, and despair doesn’t vanish immediately; but when we follow Him, the next step is visible, the direction becomes clearer, and hope pierces through. Life may feel like endless night, but the Light of the World is never absent.
Imagine a traveler lost in a forest as twilight deepens. The path is invisible, and panic threatens to take over. Then a lantern appears in the distance, steady and unwavering. Step by step, the traveler moves toward it. That lantern doesn’t remove the forest, but it guides, protects, and gives courage to keep moving. That is what Jesus offers us- guidance, presence, and steady light in the midst of our fears.
An Invitation
If you feel surrounded by darkness today, focus on the Light. Whisper to Him: “Lord Jesus, shine on my path. Guide me and give me courage to follow You.” Let the Light of the World illuminate even the smallest steps.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for being my light in every shadow. Help me to trust You when I cannot see the whole path and to follow You step by step. Amen.
